Insider's Guide to Ocean Drive in South Beach: Dining, Drinking, and Shopping on the Famous Street

With the iconic Lummus Park and sandy beach to the east, and fabulous dining, boutiques, and colorful Art Deco architecture to the west, Ocean Drive is one of the most popular streets in the world. There’s so much to see and do along the 1.3 mile-long palm-lined drive that stretches from 1st Street to 15th Street.

The beloved pedestrian-filled hub is officially 100 years old! In the 1920s, commercial activity took over the streetscape and Ocean Drive evolved to include high-end shops and sidewalk eateries. After another major revamp in the 80s, its unique personality is here to stay. Here’s your go-to guide for an Ocean Drive staycation.

Where to Eat on Ocean Drive

While outdoor patios, sidewalk seating, and tabletop hookahs may be indicative of Ocean Drive’s dining scene, the famed street has plenty of diverse restaurant concepts depending on what you’re in the mood to dine on. Casual eateries like Front Porch Café and News Café present a huge menu of American eats. Cozy spots like That’s Amore, The Local House and Azabu are great for a low-key dinner, while Havana 1957 and Mango’s Tropical Café keep the late-night bites and party-like atmosphere going all night long. For an elegant night out, try LT Steak & Seafood, Prime 112, CJ’s Crab Shack, A Fish Called Avalon, and Gianni’s, a romantic Italian eatery housed in the Versace mansion (pictured above).

Where to Drink and Party on Ocean Drive

Find frozen tropical drinks at Wet Willies, no-frills domestic and imported brews at Finnegan’s Way, and an impressive menu of margaritas, mojitos, and martinis at Kantina Restaurant. We’ve mentioned Mango’s Tropical Café as a place to dine, but it’s also a spot to party til dawn. The restaurant and nightclub is open until 5 a.m. every day of the week with live Latin music, DJs, salsa dance lessons, themed parties, and a seemingly endless supply of mojitos (pictured above). There’s also the hip Nikki Beach (literally on the beach), the beloved LGBTQ+ spot Palace Bar and Restaurant, VOODOO Nightclub and Lounge, and the always-crowded Clevelander Bar. For a quieter, but equally entertaining place to unwind, pull up a chair, grab a cocktail, and listen to live music at places like A Fish called Avalon and Ocean’s 10.
