Everything you Need to Know about Having a Miami Beach Wedding

Saying ‘I do’ in Miami Beach? You have reason to celebrate. Miami Beach is one of the most scenic destinations in the country and its weddings are known for being just as special. Here’s everything you need to know about having a Miami Beach wedding.

Pick Your Wedding Date

Choose a wedding date that’s perfect for you so you can begin planning. The peak wedding season in Miami is typically June. Keep in mind that late spring to early fall in Miami is often humid and afternoon showers are likely. Make sure your venue has a backup plan in case the weather decides not to cooperate.

Make it Legal

There are a few important hoops to jump through before being considered a legally married couple. All the paperwork can be overwhelming, so make sure your affairs are in order before the big day. Here are a few common questions about getting legally married in Miami Beach.

Where can I get my marriage license in Miami Beach?

Couples need to apply for a marriage license together through the Marriage License Bureau of Miami-Dade County. Visit the Miami Beach District Court at 1130 Washington Ave. #200 (only a half-mile from The Sagamore) to apply.

What do I need to get my marriage license in Miami Beach?

Each person needs to present a valid photo ID, social security number (non-U.S. citizens may present an Alien Registration Card, or Passport number), and funds to cover the cost of the license.

How much does a marriage license cost in Miami Beach?

Costs typically run around $94. If you and your partner have attended and completed an approved premarital course, the cost is reduced to $61.

How long does it take to get a marriage license in Miami Beach?

You will be issued the license the day you apply in person.

Can I get married the same day I obtain a license in Miami Beach?

Not if you’re a Florida resident. Residents have a mandatory 3-day waiting period before the marriage license becomes valid (non-residents are exempt from this).

Who can perform a marriage ceremony?

Ceremonies must be performed by either an ordained minister, priest, rabbi, or other ordained clergy, any judge of the state of Florida, Clerks of the Circuit Court and their deputies of the state of Florida (while performing their duties), or a public notary of the state of Florida.

How can I find a registered wedding officiant in Miami Beach?

If you don’t have a particular religious officiant in mind or your ceremony isn’t in a house of worship, contact Miami Beach City Hall and ask about judges or wedding officiants that are available. The Knot can also help connect you with the right fit.

Where does the wedding officiant return the certificate?

Make sure your officiant returns the certificate to the Miami-Dade County Marriage License Bureau within 10 days. Visit the Miami-Dade Clerk of Courts for more information.

Where do I find name change information?

If you’re changing your name post-nuptials, bring a copy of your marriage license to your local Social Security office to update your Social Security card first. Wedding Wire has a comprehensive checklist of how to change your last name, including what identification to bring and which agencies you need to alert to make it official.
